Director's Note
As the year draws to a close, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude for your continued support and enthusiasm for the wonders of nature. It has been a remarkable journey, and we are thrilled that you’ve been an essential part of our success.
There’s so much to be proud of as we look back at the accomplishments of 2023. The Nature Center building was refreshed with new siding, windows, and a fresh coat of interior paint. Dozens of volunteers worked tirelessly to clear invasive species along the trails and select riparian buffer zones – then planning native species of trees, shrubs, and forbs. Our Clean Stream program was enhanced to accommodate ESL students and those with limited mobility and our series of Nature Discovery Days brought new audiences to our park.
In February, we hired Penn Trails, LLC to complete a comprehensive Master Trail Plan. The important project, combined with the County of Bucks Wayfinding Project and our Trail & Garden Revitalization Project, will provide an updated trail map, trail signs, enhanced visitor center gardens, and guidelines for trail repair and maintenance. These updates will help us increase educational and interpretive opportunities for visitors and program participants. This work will continue into 2024.
The Nature Play Zone Project is a shining example of the good things that happen when community members and partners come together for the greater good. This project was made possible with the support of our board, the County of Bucks, volunteers, key community partners, memberships, and donations. We have much to do in 2024 and we hope you’ll consider supporting our efforts. Gift memberships, end of year financial donations, attendingprograms, and volunteeringare just a few of the ways you can support our mission and help complete our important work. Keep reading for more information on how you can help.
We’d also like to extend a hearty welcome to Jenn Bilger, our new EE Manager! Jenn joined our team in early December and is eager to meet our members and supporters. Please feel free to stop by and say hello.
While you’re here, grab a cup of coffee or hot chocolate, warm up by the fire, and check out the gift shop. We’ve got new swag (including PVNC sweatshirts) and unique items for the nature lovers on your gift list. We look forward to seeing you and wish you all a happy holiday season and healthy New Year!
Please extend a hearty welcome to the newest member of our team, Jenn Bilger! Jenn joins us as our new Environmental Education Manager and brings to PVNC more than 20 years of experience in Naturalist Education and Management. She holds a B.A. from Susquehanna University and a M.A in Environmental Education from the University of New Hampshire.
Please join us in welcoming Jennifer to our organization!
End-of-Year Appeal
Earlier this year we launched the Trail & Garden Revitalization Project, that would improve the visitor experience with upgraded wildlife gardens, a new trail map, and interpretive signs. The project received support from a Visit Bucks County Tourism Grant, the Friends of Peace Valley Nature Center, and donations from individuals. So far, rain garden design was completed, removal of invasive species has begun, and Penn Trails was commissioned to complete a Master Trail Plan. In addition, this project will be complemented by County of Bucks project that will include park entry and trail signs. There are many exciting improvements scheduled for 2024! Financial support is still needed to make this project a reality.
Please consider supporting the Trail & Garden Revitalization Project in your end-of-year charitable giving.
Get outside and enjoy the wonders of nature with us this winter! Time spent in the woods is a great way to combat the winter blues and we have a variety of programs and events to choose from.
From Nature Discovery Days to night hikes, winter tree ID to fireside chats with a Naturalist, there's plenty of educational opportunities to choose from.
Drop in and discover a variety of nature-themed activities the entire family will enjoy. Discovery Day is a family-friendly, free event where young explorers, ages 3 – 12, learn about a unique nature topic though self-guided activities and explorations. This month's theme is all about being thankful for the nature that surrounds us. No registration required. Donations kindly accepted.
