Message from the Director

Dear Friends of Peace Valley Nature Center,

As winter gives way to longer days and the first signs of spring, we’re excited to welcome a new season at Peace Valley Nature Center. The quieter winter months gave us time to reflect, plan, and prepare for an exciting year ahead. Our staff has been busy maintaining trails, planning programs, and preparing new opportunities for visitors to connect with nature.

This spring brings plenty to look forward to as we begin celebrating the next 50 years of Peace Valley Nature Center with special programs and events throughout the year. Be sure to save the dates for our Annual Membership Meeting and Native Plant Sale, always a wonderful opportunity to gather with fellow members and bring home beautiful native plants for your garden.

We’re also excited to share that new staff members have joined the PVNC team, allowing us to expand our environmental education programs and reach even more learners of all ages. In the coming weeks, we’ll also be sharing more about an upcoming improvement project in the rain garden, which will enhance both habitat and learning opportunities on site.

Spring is one of the most magical times at the Nature Center, and we can’t wait to see you out on the trails.

With gratitude,
Kelly Joslin
Director/Naturalist

CELEBRATING 50 YEARS

OF CONNECTING PEOPLE WITH NATURE

For 50 years, Peace Valley Nature Center (PVNC) has inspired meaningful connections between people and the natural world. In 2026, PVNC will celebrate this milestone anniversary with a year-long series of themed community programs and activities designed to honor its legacy while inspiring stewardship for the next generation.

Throughout the year, Peace Valley Nature Center will host a rotating lineup of signature themes that highlight different aspects of its history, mission, and impact:

  • Flora & Fauna — guided nature walks, plant identification workshops, and wildlife observation activities that showcase the region’s biodiversity.
  • Art in Nature — a plein-air painting exhibit and nature-inspired art workshops that blend creativity with the outdoors.
  • Explore Nature — interactive experiences across the park, including a “Find Your Wild” scavenger hunt at iconic locations throughout Peace Valley.
  • Education Through the Years — a celebration of PVNC’s role in environmental education, featuring hands-on family activities and reflections on decades of learning in nature.
  • Looking to the Future — programs highlighting sustainability initiatives, habitat restoration efforts, and visions for the next 50 years of conservation and community engagement.

STAY TUNED - More details will be posted to our website March 20th!

FIND YOUR WILD

As part of the anniversary celebration, PVNC will launch “Find Your Wild,” a brand-new, interactive scavenger hunt for all ages beginning April 1st, just in time for spring. Participants will complete nature-themed missions, earn points, explore the park in new ways, and be entered for a chance to win exciting prizes. The program is completely free to join and designed to create lasting memories for families, friends, and visitors of all ages.

Special Presentation!

Join us for a special anniversary conversation with author Carolyn Constable as we reflect on the origins of Peace Valley Nature Center and celebrate the next 50 years of connecting people and nature. Drawing from her book Who Learns Will Love, Carolyn will share stories and insights from the Nature Center’s early days while looking ahead to the future of conservation, community, and nature education in our region.

Spring Volunteer Opportunities at PVNC

Spring is a great time to get involved and help care for the landscapes and habitats at Peace Valley Nature Center. Volunteers can lend a hand with habitat restoration projects, support the Native Plant Garden Crew, and assist with invasive plant removal, including seasonal garlic mustard pulls that help protect native wildflowers and woodland ecosystems. Whether you enjoy working in the gardens or out on the trails, these hands-on opportunities are a great way to learn, connect with nature, and make a meaningful impact at PVNC.
