Tales
June 2023
Welcome to the Dove Tales, a monthly e-blast to our most ardent supporters of PVNC. Here you’ll find links to upcoming programs, volunteer and membership news, and updates on projects. We hope this provides the resources you need to stay informed and engaged!
Director's Note
A year into my tenure at PVNC, I can't help but be humbled by the support of our community. From each native plant sold, to each dollar donated, and to each person who steps in to volunteer - in the gift shop, at a special event, or participates in natural resource management - it demonstrates the importance of this organization and our mission. It's truly a remarkable place supported by extraordinary people.
It's this supportive community that allows staff to make great strides in connecting the public to our natural world. Volunteers have spent hours on the property, removing invasive species, planting native forbs and trees, and maintaining trails so you can access your favorite, quiet spot. Staff have shared their passion for nature with kids of all ages, from preschoolers to senior citizens, through a variety of programs.
This summer work will continue on two projects that will expand our reach and improve the visitor experience. The first project is the installation of a Nature Play Zone along the Evergreen Trail. The second project will provide a Trail System Master Plan, which will include a system wide trail assessment, map, and master trail plan. Stay tuned for more details!
As I look forward to summer at the Nature Center, I can’t wait to fully take in the squeals and smiles of our summer campers immersing themselves fully in nature, seeing the gorgeous blooms of the swamp rose mallow along Lake Galena, and to sit in our woodland forest bathed in bright green leaves. I hope you’ll take full advantage of our trails and facility and enjoy all the beautiful sights and sounds of summer.
See you on the trails,
Kelly Joslin

A few spots remain in our popular Fledgling Flock program.
Join us on this exciting night hike and rare opportunity to explore the park after dark! We will be in search of bats (Chiroptera) while we learn some fascinating facts about these misunderstood creatures.
Allison has hiked the trails of Peace Valley Nature Center since she was a baby with her parents, who happened to have proposed on one of the trails. She is currently a student at Ursinus College majoring in Environmental Studies and Music.
The summer internship is part of the college’s experiential learning program to help her figure out what she will do once out of college.
Over the summer, she will work to create hands-on educational activities about native trees in our new nature play zone.
A Father's Day Shout Out to Animal Dads
by Allison Cameron, Summer Intern
With Father’s Day approaching, it's worth considering the different roles fathers play in the animal kingdom. Typically, animal fathers are known to leave the mother after the baby has been born, but there are a few examples of fathers who take an active role in raising children...
Male Northern cardinals are dedicated dads. They ensure their mate is fed while she incubates the eggs and they take an active role in raising the young.
VOLUNTEER NOTES
Our volunteers have been hard at work removing invasive plants, planting beneficial natives, holding our native plant sale fundraiser, and so much more.
Thank you, volunteers!
Father's Day Run Still Needs Volunteers!
We're just a few short days away from the 7th Annual Father's Day Break-Fast 5K/10K Race & Fun Run.
As the beneficiary, we've been asked to provide volunteers to help facilitate the race and we know how eager the Peace Valley community is for opportunities to support the Nature Center. We hope you'll consider lending a hand and as an added bonus, volunteers get a pancake breakfast!
The race begins and ends at the Station Tap House in downtown Doylestown. Volunteers are needed in the following areas:
Our Spring projects are in full swing, and we need your help! Join our talented team of volunteers who maintain trails, remove invasive species, plant trees, fill birdfeeders, and so much more. This is a fantastic way to give back to our beloved park and make friends in the process!

Membership and donations for the Friends of PVNC provide funds for our environmental education program mission. We are fortunate to have a community that provides financial and volunteer support and look forward to your continued participation!
